Eavestrough Installation

New eavestroughs are fabricated on site from a continuous aluminum coil, cut to the exact length of your roofline. This produces a seamless trough with joints only at corners, which is significantly more durable than sectional systems bought in preset lengths and connected at multiple points. In Calgary, where freeze-thaw cycles put constant stress on every joint and seal, seamless construction is not a luxury. It is the right way to do it.

We install both 5-inch and 6-inch profiles in residential applications. Downspouts, extensions, and hangers are included. We calculate the correct slope for your specific roofline to make sure water drains to the downspout rather than pooling in the low points of the trough.

Eavestrough Repair

The most common eavestrough repairs we see on Calgary homes are joint failures from freeze-thaw sealant deterioration, troughs pulling away from the fascia when fasteners work loose, sections dented or cracked by hailstorms or falling ice, and slope problems where a section has shifted and water pools rather than drains. 5-Inch or 6-Inch Eavestrough? How to Choose for Your Calgary Home

Most Calgary contractors install 5-inch eavestroughs on residential homes and reserve the 6-inch for commercial buildings. Chinook Exteriors installs both on residential properties, and for some homes the 6-inch is genuinely the better choice.

For most standard Calgary bungalows and two-storey homes, 5-inch is the right size. If your home has a large footprint, a steep or complex roofline that concentrates water into a small section of gutter, or a history of overflow during heavy rain or spring snowmelt, the 6-inch is worth discussing at the free estimate. Gentek is one of the most widely used exterior product lines in Western Canada and carries a 40-year product warranty on their aluminum eavestrough systems. Warranty coverage depends on the product selected and manufacturer installation requirements.

One advantage that often goes unmentioned: the Gentek colour system. Most homeowners do not realize their eavestroughs can be colour-matched to their fascia, soffit, and siding. The standard industry default is white or brown. With Gentek, the colour range includes white, wicker, brown, almond, and additional options, all available in both 5-inch and 6-inch profiles. We bring samples to the estimate so you can see the options against your existing exterior before any material is ordered.

Typical project cost in Calgary: $8 to $14 per linear foot installed for a 5-inch aluminum system. The 6-inch profile runs $13 to $17 per linear foot. A typical Calgary home needs 150 to 200 linear feet of eavestrough. Removal of the old system adds $300 to $600.
