Calgary Fascia Specialists You Can Trust

Most Calgary homeowners know their fascia needs attention when the paint is peeling or the gutters start pulling away from the house. What is less obvious is what comes next if it is ignored. Rotting fascia boards let moisture work its way into the rafter ends and the roof edge. Sagging fascia means your eavestrough system is no longer draining where it should. Small cosmetic problems become structural ones faster than most people expect.

Chinook Exteriors installs, repairs, and replaces fascia across Calgary and the surrounding area. We have been working on Calgary exteriors since 2011 and we know what holds up against freeze-thaw cycles, hailstorms, and Chinook winds. We use Gentek Building Products as our primary fascia supplier, which carries a 40-year product warranty and comes in a wide range of colours to match any exterior.

Every job starts with a free inspection. We look at the fascia condition, the soffit behind it, the eavestrough attachment, and the rafter ends underneath. If there is rot or damage beyond the visible surface, we tell you before quoting.

Free fascia inspection and written estimate for Calgary homeowners.

What Fascia Does and Why It Matters

Fascia is the horizontal board running along the lower edge of your roofline, just below the shingles and directly behind your eavestrough. Most homeowners see it as a trim element. Contractors see it as a structural anchor.

Fascia serves three functions. First, it caps the ends of the roof rafters, sealing them from direct weather exposure. Second, it provides the surface your eavestrough screws or clips into. A failing fascia board means a failing gutter system. Third, it closes the gap between the roof edge and the exterior wall, blocking water, pests, and debris from entering the eave cavity.

In Calgary specifically, fascia takes extra punishment. Ice dams forming at the eaves push water backward across the fascia board. Freeze-thaw cycles work the screws loose over time. Hail storms hit the exposed face directly. And wood fascia, which most Calgary homes built before 2000 still have, deteriorates faster in our dry-cold climate than manufacturer ratings suggest.

Note – Fascia works alongside your soffit and eavestrough system. See our Soffit page and Eavestrough page for related services.

Signs Your Fascia Needs Attention

These are the most common indicators we see on Calgary inspection calls:

What You Notice What It Usually Means
Gutters pulling away from the house or sagging Fascia board behind the gutter is soft or rotted. The gutter has lost its anchor point.
Peeling paint or bubbling along the roofline Moisture has worked its way into the board from behind. Paint failure is the first visible sign.
Dark staining or water marks below the roofline Active water running behind or along the fascia, often from a blocked eavestrough or damaged flashing.
Visible cracks, gaps, or soft spots when pressed Physical deterioration. Once a board is soft, the rot spreads quickly to the rafter end behind it.
Birds or insects entering the eave cavity Gaps in the fascia or between the fascia and soffit. Common on older Calgary homes where wood has shrunk.
Fascia looks fine but eavestrough keeps leaking The joint between the fascia and the eavestrough may be failing. Fascia replacement lets you reseat the gutter correctly.
One note on Calgary-specific timing: if your home went through a significant hail event in the last two or three years and the fascia was never inspected, it is worth a look. Hail hits the face of the fascia board directly and can cause surface cracking that becomes a water entry point over the following winter.

Fascia Services We Offer in Calgary

Fascia Installation

Installing new fascia on a new build, addition, garage, or shed requires precise measurement and proper sequencing. The fascia goes in after the roofing underlayment and before the eavestrough, so any error at this stage affects everything that attaches to it. We install to manufacturer specifications and Alberta Building Code standards, ensuring the board is properly pitched to direct water into the gutter channel.

Fascia Repair

If the damage is limited to one or two sections, repair is often the right call. We cut out the affected boards, treat any underlying rafter damage, and install new sections matched to your existing fascia profile and colour. Repaired sections are sealed at every joint to prevent moisture re-entry.

Fascia Replacement

Full replacement makes sense when deterioration is widespread, when wood fascia is being upgraded to aluminum, or when a roof replacement is being done at the same time. Replacing the fascia during a roofing project is the most cost-effective time to do it. The gutters are already off, the roofline is already exposed, and the labour overlap keeps the total cost down.

Tip: If you are having your roof replaced by Chinook Exteriors and your fascia shows any signs of wear, we will flag it during the inspection. Bundling fascia replacement with a roofing project almost always saves money compared to doing it as a separate job.

Fascia Materials We Install

Chinook Exteriors works primarily with Gentek Building Products for fascia installation. Gentek is one of the most widely used exterior product lines in Western Canada, and their aluminum fascia is specifically suited to Calgary’s climate demands. Here is how the main material options compare:

Aluminum fascia (Gentek)

$15 to $25 per linear foot

Best performance in Calgary. Rust-resistant, freeze-thaw stable, no painting required. Carries a 40-year manufacturer warranty. Our primary recommendation.

Vinyl fascia

$12 to $18 per linear foot

Budget-friendly alternative. Resists moisture and rot. Colour fades over time in Calgary’s UV exposure. Works well on lower-profile homes.

Wood fascia

$20 to $30 per linear foot

Higher installed cost due to painting and sealing labour. Traditional appearance. Requires ongoing maintenance. Most existing Calgary homes have wood fascia that is being replaced with aluminum.

Gentek aluminum fascia comes in a wide range of colours and sizes, including options that match common siding and soffit profiles. When we quote a fascia job, we bring colour samples so you can see how the options sit against your existing exterior before committing.

Typical project cost for Calgary homes: Most single-storey homes need 150 to 200 linear feet of fascia. At $15 to $25 per linear foot for aluminum, a full replacement typically runs $2,250 to $5,000 depending on the material, the number of corners and returns, and whether rafter end repairs are needed. We provide an itemized written estimate after the free inspection.

How a Fascia Project Works With Chinook Exteriors

Step 1

Free Inspection and Written Estimate

Step 2

Color Selection

We bring Gentek colour samples and match the fascia to your existing exterior. If the soffit or eavestrough is also being done at the same time, we coordinate all three for a clean, consistent finish.

Step 3

Installation

Old fascia is removed and the rafter ends are inspected for rot or moisture damage. Any repairs needed are quoted and approved before proceeding. New fascia is installed, sealed at all joints, and the eavestrough is reattached correctly.

Step 4

Cleanup and Warranty

Full site cleanup on completion. You receive written warranty documentation covering both the Gentek product warranty and our 10-year installation warranty. If we also installed soffit or eavestrough at the same time, those warranties are documented together.

What Calgary Homeowners Say

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need to repair or replace my fascia?

If the damage is limited to one or two sections and the boards behind them are still solid, repair is usually the right call. If you press the board and it is soft, if multiple sections are showing rot or paint failure, or if the gutters have been pulling away for more than one season, full replacement is the more practical option. A free inspection gives you a clear answer. We will tell you honestly which way to go.

Can I replace fascia without replacing the gutters?

Yes, though the gutters need to come off to do the job properly. We remove the eavestrough, install the new fascia, and reattach the gutters. If the gutters are still in good shape, they go back up on the new board. If they are showing wear, we can quote replacing them at the same time. Doing both together saves on labour costs since the gutters are already down.

What is the difference between fascia and soffit?

Fascia is the vertical-facing board at the edge of the roofline, running horizontally along the front of the rafter ends. This is where the gutters attach. Soffit is the material that runs horizontally underneath the eave overhang, filling the space between the fascia and the exterior wall. They are installed together and usually colour-matched to each other. If one is deteriorating, it is worth checking the condition of the other at the same time.

Why does my fascia keep rotting even after it has been painted?

Paint protects the face of the board, but moisture usually enters from behind or from the top, where the drip edge and roof shingles meet the fascia. If the joint between the drip edge and the fascia board is not properly sealed, or if the eavestrough is overflowing and running down behind the board, paint alone will not prevent rot. Replacing wood fascia with aluminum eliminates the problem entirely since aluminum does not absorb moisture.

Is aluminum fascia worth the extra cost over wood?

In Calgary, yes. Wood fascia needs to be repainted every few years, is vulnerable to moisture from ice dam runoff, and tends to deteriorate faster in our freeze-thaw climate than in milder regions. Aluminum requires no painting, handles freeze-thaw movement without cracking, and comes with a 40-year product warranty on Gentek products. The higher upfront cost is usually recovered within a few years in avoided maintenance alone.
